A Private Escape by the Arctic Lake

Auroa Cottage Otsola is located on Saariniemi Estate´s private peninsula by Lake Vanttausjärvi, 55 km from Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland. Set on the northern shore and surrounded by forest and open water, the cottage offers a peaceful and authentic Arctic nature experience.

From the cottage windows, the lake stretches directly before you. From late August to April, the Northern Lights can often be seen above the shoreline — right from the yard or through the window on clear nights.

The Cottage

The 23 m² cabin includes:

  • A cozy fireplace
  • Dining area
  • Small kitchenette (refrigerator, microwave and two hot plates)
  • Smart TV and Wi-Fi
  • Double bed that can be arranged as two separate beds

Please note:

There is no running water or shower in the cottage. Drinking and washing water are provided in containers. A composting eco-toilet is located right next to the cabin. The eco-toilet is heated during winter to ensure comfort.

Aurora Cottage Otsola is ideal for guests who appreciate simplicity, silence and closeness to nature.


Sauna and Lakeside Surroundings

By the lake, you will find a traditional Finnish campfire shelter (laavu) and a wood-heated lakeside sauna, offering an authentic Finnish cottage experience.

In winter, you can step from the sauna directly into the snow under the Arctic sky. In summer, enjoy swimming in the lake and the calm light of northern evenings.

We will guide you in heating both the lakeside sauna and the cottage fireplace, so you can enjoy them safely and comfortably.

Winter Activities

In winter, you can begin snowshoeing or traditional forest skiing directly from the cottage. The frozen lake and surrounding forest provide a peaceful setting for independent outdoor exploration.

Fishing equipment, snowshoes and forest skis are available for rent.

Practical Information

During your stay, dishes are collected and returned clean for your convenience.
