Life at Saariniemi

We love how we live - and we live how we love

Traditions are cherished here at Saariniemi Estate. Our animals are native Finnish breeds: Finnsheep, Kainuu grey sheep, two cats, and free-ranging country chickens led by a proud rooster.

Our sheep play a special role — they serve as gentle "therapy sheep" and are part of Finland´s national gene bank. During your stay, you're welcome to spend time with them — we'll gladly guide you.

Some of our pastures are traditional biotopes – valuable heritage meadows that support biodiversity and thrive through grazing. Managed in traditional ways, these landscapes are home to rare plant species and important pollinators. The presence of our sheep helps maintain the vitality and beauty of the area.

The breathtaking nature surrounding us is priceless. Our private peninsula is a sanctuary of biodiversity, home to up to 33 bird species, including the critically endangered willow tit. Frogs thrive here, wild berries and mushrooms grow in abundance, and reindeer wander freely across the land.
