Sustainability at Saariniemi Estate

Discover how our sustainable journey shapes everything we do at the estate

Lapland Deluxe has been awarded the official Sustainable Travel Finland label, which reflects our commitment to environmentally responsible and sustainable tourism. The STF label is granted only to tourism businesses that meet the strict ecological, social, and economic sustainability criteria defined by Visit Finland.

For us, sustainability is not a trend – it's a way to respect the nature, culture, and guests of Lapland, now and in the future.

What we do:

  • Respect for nature & animal welfare: Our private peninsula is home to native Finnish and Kainuu grey sheep used for therapy and genetic conservation - supporting biodiversity and emotional connection.
  • Some of our fields are traditional biotopes – heritage meadows where biodiversity is supported through sheep grazing.
  • Celebrate local heritage: Traditional workshops, food, and authentic historical storytelling.
  • Eco-conscious choices: Renewable energy and locally-sourced, organic ingredients.
  • Responsible waste and water use: We provide clear instructions for sorting waste and reducing water consumption.
  • Small-group ethos: Max 10 guests per activity, minimising our environmental impact.
  • Ethical Fishing: We fish with care, following local knowledge, tradition, and sustainable practices – taking only what we need.

  • ECEAT -Finland-certified: Part of the European Centre for Ecological and Agricultural Tourism network.
  • Green Care Nature Empowement quality label: Our Well-being from the Farm service has been officially awarded the Green Care Nature Empowerment label, recognizing responsible, impactful and professionally guided nature-based activities.

Our commitments going forward:

  • Expanding wellness-in-nature offerings
  • Restoring historic buildings using traditional craftsmanship
  • Educating guests about sustainable travel
  • We are participating in the project, coordinated by the Natural Resources Institute Finland: Arctic Pathways – Experience the northern summer by walking, cycling, riding and boating.

We are proud to be an official Visit Rovaniemi Partner – a membership that reflects our ongoing commitment to sustainable and responsible tourism in Arctic Finland. Through our annual partnership, we also support community initiatives and UNICEF.

All our actions align with the principles of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).
