Sustainability at Saariniemi Estate

For us, sustainability is not a trend — it is a way of life

Sustainability is at the heart of life at Saariniemi Estate in Finnish Lapland. Our private peninsula, traditional farming practices, and small-scale tourism are designed to protect nature, cultural heritage, and animal welfare while offering guests an authentic experience of rural Lapland.

At Saariniemi Estate we respect the nature, animals, and cultural heritage of Finnish Lapland — every day, quietly and consistently.

Our private peninsula is home not only to us, but also to our animals. Native Finnish Finnsheep and Kainuu Grey sheep graze on traditional heritage meadows, helping to maintain the biodiversity of the landscape. Some of our sheep also serve as gentle "therapy sheep" and are part of Finland's national genetic conservation program.

Our traditions are visible in everyday life. We restore historic buildings using traditional methods, prepare food according to the seasons and local ingredients, and share the local history of the estate with respect.

We operate with small groups — a maximum of ten guests at a time — so that the peace of nature, animals, and the place itself can be preserved.

Fishing is done according to nature's limits and only when needed. The catch is used in our household and in meals prepared for our guests.

We also guide our visitors in responsible choices, such as waste sorting and saving water, because every action matters.

Whenever possible, we use renewable energy and favor local and organic ingredients.
